If you work remotely and want to live legally in the Republic of Moldova long-term, there’s good news. Starting 20 September 2025, a new legal framework allows eligible digital nomads to obtain temporary residence in Moldova.
This regime allows foreign nationals who work remotely for employers outside Moldova, or who run their own businesses abroad, to live legally in Moldova for up to 2 years, with the possibility of extension.
Who is a “digital nomad”
A digital nomad is a professional who works remotely in fields such as IT, marketing, design, consulting, or online education, needing only an internet connection.
What the new “digital nomad” regime brings
In practice, until now, long-term residence options for remote workers and digital nomads were limited or required indirect solutions.
For example, in 2024, Moldova did not have a dedicated pathway for people who wanted to live legally in Moldova long-term while keeping their income from abroad. The new regulation creates a clear immigration route that previously did not exist.
This matters especially for:
-IT specialists working in international teams;
-Entrepreneurs (founders) with a business registered abroad;
-Consultants / freelancers with external contracts and stable income.
Who qualifies:
If you want to stay in Moldova beyond the standard legal stay period and continue earning income from remote work, you must meet several conditions at the same time:
- Stable income obtained through remote work or from a business abroad;
- Valid health insurance for the territory of the Republic of Moldova;
- Proof of address in Moldova (for example, a rental agreement or proof of home ownership in Moldova);
- There is no requirement for the applicant to be from a specific country.
In addition, in practice, many applications get delayed for “technical” reasons: unclear wording in contracts, missing confirmations, documents without proper translations, or missing required legalizations.
How Jurista can help:
To avoid refusals or repeated requests for additional documents, we can support you end-to-end:
- eligibility check (employment contract vs. shareholder / entrepreneur) and income threshold review;
- a personalized document checklist, including what needs apostille and translation;
- contract / statement review to align with the legal requirements for this regime;
- If your documents are already prepared, we can quickly do a “risk check” (what’s missing, what is unclear, what could raise questions at submission).
Want to check if you qualify?
Message us and we’ll quickly tell you which route fits your situation and what documents you need, depending on your status (contractor, remote employee, company shareholder).
